How to configure a generic USB gamepad natively in Dead Space 2

Please note, you won't be able to configure the gamepad with the in-game controls menu.

Game Pad Configuration
----------------
For game pads which do not exhibit correct behavior, a custom configuration can be used to specify the actions that each button and joystick should be associated with. The file must be called joypad.txt and be located in the Dead Space™ 2 installation directory. An example file is located in that directory named joypad_example.txt. You can use this file by renaming it to joypad.txt.

In order to change the behavior of your game pad, you will need to change the value for the button and joystick axis entries. In order to find the correct values for these entries, first navigate to the ‘Game Controllers’ item in Control Panel with the game pad connected to the computer. Next select the game pad from the ‘Installed game controllers’ list and click the ‘Properties’ button. The Properties window should be displayed which will allow you to determine what the number of each of your game pads buttons is as well as the name of each of the joystick axes.

Buttons must be assigned a value of ‘Button.#’ where # is the number of the button.
For joystick axes, they must be assigned a value from the following list:
X-Axis
Y-Axis
Z-Axis
Z-Rotation
Throttle
Rudder
X-Axis.Inverted
Y-Axis.Inverted
Z-Axis.Inverted
Z-Rotation.Inverted
Throttle.Inverted
Rudder.Inverted
This list corresponds to the common axes that are used by game pads, as well a variant of each axis which is flipped or inverted.

After setting each of the button and joystick axis values, and renaming the file joypad.txt, when you start Dead Space™ 2 the configuration will be loaded. If a mistake has been made and the value of any of the buttons or joystick axes isn’t recognized, that button or joystick axis will do nothing in game.

Below is the original content of joypad_example.txt:

Clear cache, cookies, and history and reset Web settings

Whenever you visit websites, temporary Internet files and cookies are stored on your computer to record your return visits. Sometimes, these temporary Internet files and cookies can cause the issue that you are currently experiencing. Similarly, your history list can also be a concern. The more the number of days you have specified for pages to be saved on your history list, the greater is the disk space used on your computer. You can free up the disk space by clearing this list.
Note: Once you clear your cookies, cache, history, and footprints, you may lose the following:
  • AOL Radio presets
  • websites you have visited
  • Your shopping cart
  • Your customized pages

How do I clear my Java cache?

If you're having problems running Pogo games, you should try clearing your Java cache. Please note: Java cache is different than your Browser cache. Clearing your Java cache can be a quick and easy fix. Please follow these steps if you are using a Windows platform:
  • Click the following things in order: Start > Control Panel > Java.
Note: If you do not see the Java icon, click on Switch to Classic View in the menu on the left-hand side, and this should allow you to see the Java icon.
  • Under the General tab, click the Settings button located in the Temporary Internet Files section.
  • Then click on Delete Files...
  • A dialog box will appear. Make sure all the options are selected, and click OK.
This should probably be done whenever you encounter a problem with the way a game is functioning. Restarting your computer after doing so can also help the performance of the game.
Please Note: Clearing your Temporary Internet Files from your browser might not clear your Java cache. To make sure your Java cache is clear, you must clear your Java cache as instructed above.
You should also make sure you're running the latest version of Java. If you are not sure if you have the latest version of Sun Java or not, please visit  and follow the instructions.
Clearing your browser cache is not only good, regular maintenance for your computer but can also fix many common issues with web-based games when they won't load or close mysteriously mid-game. This regularly happens if the files in your browser cache get corrupted or just stop working.
For instructions on how to clear your cache, please read the section below that matches (or most closely matches) the browser you're using. Please follow the Clear Java Cache instructions as well; that way, you know your browser is starting on a completely clean slate (think of it as changing the oil in your car).
As a final note, even though we list older versions of some browsers here, we strongly recommend visiting the website of the browser's provider (Microsoft for Internet Explorer, etc.) and downloading the very latest version before you do anything else.

Playing Pogo Behind a Proxy or Firewall

Pogo does not officially support connections through firewalls, routers, or proxy servers. Also, please note that wireless Internet always has wireless routing, which can potentially block Pogo.
There are some things you can do to improve your ability to connect to Pogo if you do have a router or firewall.  There is a fairly simple solution which most firewall packages support. If you allow access via our class C licenses, you will then be able to access the games and everything should work fine. Your firewall will probably require some IP addresses for this, and here are the IP addresses you need:
  • 159.153.236.1
  • 159.153.236.12
If you need help setting up your firewall as outlined above, please consult your system administrator or the documentation on your firewall software. We're not firewall experts, so your firewall documentation or system admin are your best bets for getting help on setting this up.
We constantly change which ports we use, so we don't offer port numbers as a solution for firewall and proxy access problems. We know that some people are used to using to punch holes in their firewalls, but the above solution is more secure and is supported by most firewalls on the market. Please note that we are unable to provide Port information to you.
